For the grown-up

Prasutagus and the Romans · 2 minutes to read

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. past

2. past → what happened long ago; today → what is happening now

3. 43 CE

B

1. 1 Romans arrive in Britain · 2 Prasutagus agrees to the deal · 3 Prasutagus dies · 4 Nero breaks the deal If the order is mixed up, ask what had to happen before the Romans could make a deal with a king.

C

1. Prasutagus If the child picks a Roman name, read the Watch me intro again. It says who was king of the Iceni.

2. his own land If the child picks an object, remind them of the word loyal. Ask what a loyal king got to do.

3. We know: Prasutagus ruled the Iceni, Boudica was his wife · Good guess: Boudica was angry about her land · No way to know: Boudica had a favourite colour If a card is in the wrong column, ask whether the story tells us that fact, or whether we are only guessing.

4. Prasutagus → ruled the Iceni tribe; Boudica → fought back against the Romans; Emperor Nero → wanted all of her lands If a line joins the wrong pair, read the card out loud and ask who it is about.

D

1. Look for: A good answer says Nero broke the deal after Prasutagus died. Also accept that Prasutagus died, so he could not rule for ever. If the child only says Lou is silly, ask who broke the deal after Prasutagus died.

E

1. Nero broke the deal: Nero wanted all of Boudica's land, Nero took control of her lands · Romans kept the deal: Prasutagus agreed to the deal, The Romans let Prasutagus keep ruling

Words to use

Say“Which thing happened first, and how do you know? What happened after Prasutagus died?”
Instead of“Tell them the whole story at once, then ask them to remember the dates.”

After the sheet

Tell a three-part story about your morning, such as getting dressed, breakfast and school. Ask your child to put the parts in order using three cups or socks.
