Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. church If they circle school, ask where Christians go to pray together on a Sunday. Point to the church symbol and name it.

2. church → Christianity; mosque → Islam If they join church to Islam, ask which building Christians go to. Then ask which building Muslims go to, and join the mosque to Islam.

3. Qur'an If they circle the Bible, remind them that Christians read the Bible and Muslims read the Qur'an.

B

1. collective If they say individual, ask whether Ola is praying alone or with others. Praying with others is collective.

2. individual If they say collective, ask who is praying with Priya. Nobody is, so it is individual.

C

1. individual If they say collective, ask who else is praying with Fergus. If nobody is, it is individual.

2. collective If they say individual, ask whether Brother Sam is alone. He is with other monks, so it is collective.

3. quietly If they say out loud, ask how someone else could hear Nadia's words if she prays in her head.

4. Look for: Names any way to pray, such as singing, and says alone or with others.

D

1. Look for: Says Kit is wrong because prayer can be out loud or in the head, alone or together, so not all prayer looks the same. If they agree with Kit, ask them to think of a prayer said quietly in the head. Then ask whether that looks the same as a prayer said out loud.

E

1. Look for: Gives three different ways to pray and says for each whether it is alone or together.

Words to use

Say“Tell me two ways people pray. How are they different? Is each one alone or together?”
Instead of“Tell them that all prayer looks the same, so there is only one right way.”

After the sheet

Make two cards, ON MY OWN and TOGETHER. Describe a prayer, like grace with the family or a bedtime prayer. Ask your child which card it goes on.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
