Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. rouge

2. quatre If they pick trois, which is 3, they have missed one dot. Ask them to touch and count each dot aloud, then ask which number comes after trois.

3. noir

B

1. blanc If they pick blanche, ask whether chat is a masculine or feminine word. Masculine nouns take the plain form, so blanc.

2. rapide

C

1. noir If they pick noire, ask if chien is a masculine or feminine word. Chien is masculine, so the plain form noir is right.

2. noire If they pick noir, ask if tortue is masculine or feminine. Tortue is feminine, so the adjective needs the -e: noire.

3. noire Check the noun first. Tu as changes only the verb here, so the noun tortue is still feminine.

4. J'ai une tortue bleue. If they pick the English word order, say: in French the colour comes after the noun, like tortue bleue.

D

1. Look for: J'ai un chien noir, with noir after chien because French colours go after the noun. If they keep noir before chien, say: in French the colour goes after the noun, so it is chien noir.

E

1. Look for: Two French sentences using j'ai and tu as, each with an adjective after the noun, and an explanation of the -e using the noun's gender.

Words to use

Say“Tell me the noun first. Is it a boy word or a girl word? Then which ending does the colour need?”
Instead of“Just tell them the answer, or say the colour word in English and let them guess the French order.”

After the sheet

Put a red cup and a blue pen on the table. Say J'ai une tasse rouge and J'ai un stylo bleu, then swap who makes the sentence. StudyDen plays the French words aloud in the app, so listen together.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
