For the grown-up

The Good Samaritan · 2 minutes to read

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Zakat your child may have picked Hajj because it is the last pillar. Point to the chain and ask which pillar comes straight after Salah.

2. Good Friday

3. New Testament

B

1. 1 Robbers attack the man · 2 Priest walks past · 3 Samaritan helps the man your child may have put the helper first because he is the hero. Ask what must happen to the man before anyone can help him.

C

1. Jerusalem your child may have picked Jericho, which is where the man was going. Ask which city he started from.

2. a priest and a Levite your child may have picked the Samaritan. Ask who in the story was a religious person and who was an outsider.

3. He cleaned the man's wounds your child may have picked another card. Ask what the Samaritan did for the man's injuries before he took him anywhere.

4. Go and do the same

D

1. Look for: A neighbour is anyone who needs help, even someone seen as an outsider or enemy, not only people who live nearby. your child may have repeated only 'be kind'. Say kindness is part of it, but Jesus was answering who counts as a neighbour. Ask who the hero was.

E

1. Look for: A reason linked to shocking the listeners or to showing that anyone in need counts as a neighbour, with a short explanation.

Words to use

Say“Which person in the story surprised you most, and why do you think Jesus picked them?”
Instead of“Yes, that's right, it's just a story about being nice.”
