Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Look for: near, because the house is in the square next to the shop

2. Look for: left, because the shop is in the square on the left of the house

3. Look for: a house, because it is in the square on the right of the school If they say the shop, ask them to put a finger on the school and move one square to the right.

B

1. The name A postcode and a playground do not say which school it is. Ask what word we use to call the school.

2. The postcode If they pick the school name, ask what the name tells people. Then ask which part helps the post.

C

1. Maple Green Primary School Road names and park names are not school names. Ask which card has the word school in it.

2. Road name: Oak Road, Elm Street · School name: Sunnyside Primary, Hill Top Primary If a road is with the schools, ask: does it say Road or Street?

3. address A name says which school it is. The address says where the building is. Ask which word means where.

4. a group of homes close together If they pick just one house, ask them to look at the row of houses. A postcode covers a small group, not one door and not the whole town.

D

1. Look for: Every school has its own name, and the postcode is only one part of the address. Kit has forgotten that every school has its own name. Ask your child what the name helps people do.

E

1. Look for: A made-up school name, a road and a town, with a reason that the name says which school and the address says where.

Words to use

Say“Which part tells people which school it is? Which part tells them where it is?”
Instead of“Just say the answer, it's obvious.”
