Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Shahadah → Saying the statement of faith; Salah → Praying five times a day; Sawm → Fasting in Ramadan; Zakah → Giving to people in need; Hajj → Pilgrimage to Makkah If your child joins Salah to fasting, they may be mixing up the Pillars. Say the Pillars in order and ask what Salah means.

2. Arabic If your child circled English, remind them the Qur'an was revealed in Arabic. Say the word Arabic together and point to the blank.

3. Al-Fatiha If your child circled Al-Ikhlas or An-Nas, say that Al-Fatiha is the opening surah. It has seven verses and is said in every prayer.

B

1. Fajr If your child circled Isha, ask: is it dark at dawn, or is the sun just coming up?

C

1. Maghrib If your child circled Isha, ask: is the sun going down at sunset, or is it already night?

2. Fajr → dawn; Dhuhr → midday; Asr → afternoon; Maghrib → sunset; Isha → night

3. 1 Fajr · 2 Dhuhr · 3 Asr · 4 Maghrib · 5 Isha If your child starts with Isha, they may be reading the list from the end. Ask: which prayer happens when the sun first comes up?

4. south-east If your child circled north-east, point to the line about Makkah at the top. Find south-east on a compass together.

D

1. Look for: Says no, because prayer times follow the sun and change a little each day. If your child agrees with Priya, ask: does the sun come up at the same time in summer and winter? Prayer times follow the sun.

E

1. Look for: Mentions Makkah or the Qibla and the idea that Muslims face the same place together.

Words to use

Say“Tap the five prayer names with me. Which one comes first in the day, and which one comes last?”
Instead of“Just tell them the answers, or say they should know this already.”

After the sheet

Use a phone compass app to find south-east together. Say 'That way is Makkah'. Then tap five fingers and name each prayer.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
