For the grown-up

Belonging at church · 2 minutes to read

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. sunny

2. Autumn

3. Get dressed

B

1. Pray together

C

1. a church your child may be thinking of another faith. A mosque is where Muslims worship. Ask: which place is a Christian church?

2. worship If your child picks sacred, say that sacred means holy and special. Worship means showing love and praise to God.

3. sing praise songs

4. a church → Christians; a mosque → Muslims; a synagogue → Jewish people If lines cross, ask your child which place has a cross on the roof. That is the church, so Christians go there.

D

1. Look for: Says Kit is wrong: a church is where Christians worship and belong. Accept that the church is the people, or a holy, special place. If your child says Kit is right, ask what Asher's church family does there. Do people do that in a shop?

E

1. Look for: An idea that the place is holy or sacred, or helps people feel they belong together with others.

Words to use

Say“Which part of Asher's Sunday do you like best? Why do you think it helps him belong?”
Instead of“A church is just a building, isn't it? Just write the answer.”

After the sheet

Draw three pictures of a family Sunday: someone saying hello, singing, and sharing a meal together. Talk about how each one makes people feel included.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
