B

1. Zakat

C

1. Shahadah your child may have picked Zakat because it is also a pillar. Zakat is giving money. Ask what the pillar says about one God.

3. Hajj your child may have picked Shahadah, which is about belief. Ask what a journey to Makkah is called in the pillars.

4. Sawm your child may have picked Salat, which is prayer. Ask what Muslims do without food in daylight during Ramadan.

D

1. Look for: Says the pillars help Muslims feel close to Allah and at peace, not only follow rules. If your child agrees with Kit, ask what Salat helps a Muslim feel. Look for the idea of being close to Allah.

E

1. Look for: Explains that standing together and praying to the same God can make people feel united and at peace.

Words to use

Say“What do you think the Five Pillars help a Muslim feel, besides following rules?”
Instead of“Just make them learn the names of the five pillars by heart.”

After the sheet

Stand five cups in a ring and rest a paper plate on top. Name one pillar for each cup. Talk about what happens if one cup is missing.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
