Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 3

2. Banana

3. Tue

B

1. No Books and minutes are different things. Ask your child what the chart counts, then check it against the question.

C

1. Yes

2. No Homework minutes are not books. Ask your child whether the thing counted on the chart is the thing the question asks about.

3. Yes Every game's goals are on the chart, so the total can be worked out. Ask your child to add the four bars.

4. No

D

1. No Kit thinks more steps means faster. Steps show how far Kit walked, not how fast. Ask your child what the chart measures.

E

1. Look for: Says the chart cannot answer it because lunches cooked are not lunches liked, and names data of each pupil's favourite lunch, such as a survey, so votes can be counted.

Words to use

Say“What does this chart count? Is that the same thing the question asks about?”
Instead of“Just read the chart and guess an answer.”

After the sheet

Each evening for three days, write how many cups of water you drink in a list with two columns, Day and Cups. Then ask one question it can answer and one it cannot.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.

The rest of this unit

5 more sheets come with a StudyDen plan, in teaching order:

  1. Sensors send data in(with a plan)
  2. Logging Readings Over Time(with a plan)
  3. Sorting data on a computer(with a plan)
  4. Planning a data logger test(with a plan)
  5. Sensors and questions(with a plan)
