Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. rouge If they circle bleu or vert, they know colour words but not this one. Point to the swatch and say rouge together.

2. quatre

3. bleu → blue; vert → green

B

1. courageux If they circle courageuse, that is the girl's form. Ask them whether the person is a boy or a girl.

2. heureuse If they circle heureux, they have used the boy's form. Ask: is the person a girl? Then the ending changes from eux to euse.

C

1. heureux If they circle heureuse, they have used the girl's form. Say the sentence aloud and ask who it is about.

2. prête If they circle prêt, they have the boy's form. The feminine adds an e, so it becomes prête.

3. content If they circle contente, they have used the girl's form. Il is for a boy, so there is no e and the t stays silent.

4. elle est triste If they circle il est triste, the pronoun is for a boy. Ask them to say who Mia is, then choose the pronoun.

D

1. et toi ? If they circle et tu ?, they have learned the phrase but not the pronoun rule. After 'et' French uses toi, so say 'et toi ?' aloud.

E

1. Look for: Two sentences using est or suis, one masculine and one feminine adjective, with a silent final consonant underlined such as the x in heureux.

Words to use

Say“You do not need to speak French. StudyDen plays the French words aloud in the app, so ask them to listen first, then say it back. Which letter did you not say?”
Instead of“Tell them the French is too hard, or read the answers out for them before they have tried.”

After the sheet

Write heureux, heureuse, prêt and prête on paper cards. Sort them into a 'he' pile and a 'she' pile, saying each card aloud and noticing which final letters you do not say.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
