Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Lonely → Nobody sat with you at lunch; Proud → You finished a hard job all by yourself; Nervous → Your stomach feels jumpy before a new class

2. Ask them to come and play your child may pick walking past. Ask: how would the classmate feel sitting alone while everyone walks by? Then ask which choice would help them feel included.

3. Helps feelings: Sharing your crayons, Saying well done for a good try · Hurts feelings: Telling a joke about someone's accent, Shouting over a friend

B

1. Curiosity

C

1. Kindness

2. Perseverance

3. Bravery

4. Look for: A named character strength plus one real, specific moment when the child showed it, at home, in a group or out and about.

D

1. Look for: Football skill is a talent or skill, not a character strength. A character strength is a way of behaving, such as perseverance, that shows in anything you do. your child may say a talent and a character strength are the same. Ask: is being fast at running a talent, or a way of behaving? Then explain that a character strength is how you act, in any activity.

E

1. Look for: A short story naming one character strength and a clear change from Year 5 to Year 6.

Words to use

Say“Which strength did you see in yourself this week? What was the moment?”
Instead of“You are so good at everything, you will be fine in Year 6.”

After the sheet

Ask your child to draw a shield with three sections at the kitchen table, one strength in each section, and stick it on the fridge where they can see it.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
