For the grown-up

What is a worldview? · 2 minutes to read

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Qur'an Torah is the holy book of Jewish people. Ask your child which faith uses the Bible, then which uses the Qur'an.

2. Christians → Church; Jewish people → Synagogue; Hindus → Mandir If your child joins Hindus to the synagogue, ask which building a Hindu family visits to worship and say the names again.

3. Holy books: Qur'an, Torah, Bible · Places of worship: Mosque, Gurdwara, Church

B

1. Look for: A value such as fairness, kindness, or helping others, linked to Mia's belief and action. If your child copies the action into the middle box, ask: what does Mia think matters most? Point to the middle box and ask for one value word.

C

1. religious

2. non-religious

3. religious If your child circles non-religious, ask: where does this worldview look for meaning, to God or to human reason?

4. non-religious

D

1. Look for: Everyone has a worldview, including non-religious people such as humanists, because a worldview is how anyone understands and lives in the world. If your child agrees with Lee, ask: does someone who cares about honesty have a worldview? Then ask about a humanist.

E

1. Look for: A belief, a value and an action that connect to each other, written in the child's own words.

Words to use

Say“Everyone has a worldview. Can you tell me one thing you believe, and one small thing you do because of it?”
Instead of“Tell them that only people who go to church, mosque or temple have views about life.”

After the sheet

At the dinner table, each person names one thing they value and one small action it leads to. Then swap turns.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
