Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. happy If they pick angry or scared, point to the sunny end of the scale and say that is for happy feelings.

2. Look for: a feeling word such as happy, sad or worried If they write an action, say the feeling comes first, then the choice. Ask what they felt first.

3. a trusted grown-up

B

1. perseverance If they circle kindness, say Mia is not helping anyone. She is keeping going, which is perseverance.

C

1. kindness If they circle curiosity, say Leo is caring for someone. That is kindness.

2. curiosity

3. honesty If they circle humour, say Sam is telling the truth. That strength is honesty.

4. perseverance

D

1. Look for: Everyone has all 24 character strengths, so Kit has some strengths too. If they agree with Kit, say every person has all 24 strengths. Some just feel more natural to each person.

E

1. Look for: A sentence that names a strength, a time it was shown, and how it will help this year.

Words to use

Say“Which strength did you notice in yourself this week? What did you do that showed it?”
Instead of“You are not very brave, so you probably have no strengths yet.”

After the sheet

Make a strengths jar at home. Each evening, write one strength you saw that day on a paper slip, then read them out at teatime.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
