Before the Battle of Badr, the Prophet ﷺ chose where his army would camp, near the wells. Then he prayed to Allah for help through the night. The Qur'an says that once you have decided, you should put your trust in Allah (Surah Al Imran 3:159).

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Writing If they pick Will or Creation, ask them to say the four levels in order, starting with knowledge. Then ask which level is about Allah writing everything down.

2. Knowledge If they pick Wealth, point to the chain: wealth is already shown. Ask what the third trial is about, in the story of Musa and Al-Khidr.

3. Look for: No. Knowing is not forcing. If they write yes, ask: if I know you will wash the cups, did I make you wash them? Knowing is not forcing.

B

1. Trust Allah with the outcome If they circle Give up, ask: did Sam finish his effort? Tawakkul comes after doing everything we can.

C

1. Effort If they circle Trust in Allah, ask: what is Mia doing with her own hands and time? That is effort.

2. Making dua and trusting Allah with the result If they circle Studying hard, ask: which part happens after Mia has done her best? That part is trust.

3. Accept it with patience and study harder If they circle Stop trying, they are treating Qadar as a reason to do nothing. Ask what the Prophet ﷺ did before Badr.

4. Effort: Making a plan, Going to the library · Trust in Allah: Accepting the result with patience, Thanking Allah for what happens If a card is in the wrong column, ask: does this card involve doing something with our hands, or accepting what Allah decides?

D

1. Look for: Says Qadar does not stop effort: a Muslim still tries their best, then trusts Allah with the result. If Kit's idea is repeated, ask: what did the Prophet ﷺ do before the Battle of Badr? Then ask them to explain tawakkul in their own words.

E

1. Look for: Mentions the Prophet ﷺ planning (choosing the camp) and then praying, and links them to tawakkul. Quoting 3:159 is a bonus.

Words to use

Say“What did you do first, and what did you leave to Allah? Which part was yours to do?”
Instead of“Tell them Qadar means they do not need to try, or that trying is pointless.”

After the sheet

Plant a bean in a pot together. Talk about what you did (soil, water, light) and what you left to Allah (the growing). Each day, take turns to name one part of each.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
