For the grown-up

Bus journey stops · 2 minutes to read

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Warm up If they circle Cool down, ask what the body needs before play. Warm up gets the body ready for moving.

2. in a clear space

3. look at one spot ahead If they circle shut your eyes, ask them to try a stop with eyes open first. Looking at a spot keeps the body steady.

B

1. 1 Jog on the spot · 2 Jog a little faster · 3 Slow to a walk · 4 Freeze, feet down If the freeze comes first, ask them to think about a bus. It stops only after it has slowed down.

C

1. Both feet down, still and balanced If they circle the wobbly one, ask them to show you each stop. Which one keeps them still?

2. Stopping → Both feet down and still; Starting → Begin slowly, then speed up; Balancing → Pick one spot ahead to look at

3. Look for: One tally mark for each try that stayed still with no wobble, from 0 to 3 marks.

4. Speed up a little at a time If they choose full speed at once, ask what a bus would do. A bus speeds up gently so nobody falls.

D

1. Look for: A spot ahead at eye level, not the feet. If they say nothing, ask where they would look on a bus to stay steady. Looking at a spot ahead keeps the body still.

E

1. Look for: Three moves in order: a start, a change of speed, then a still stop with both feet down.

Words to use

Say“Show me a stop with both feet down. Did your body wobble, or did it stay still?”
Instead of“Just run faster, that is the fun bit.”
