Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Look for: Says bend the knees, push off with an arm swing, then land softly. If your child misses a step, do one jump together slowly and name each part.

2. Look for: Lands or says to land with soft, bent knees. If your child lands with straight legs, show bending the knees like a spring.

3. Look for: Says a step, then a hop on the same foot. If your child is not sure, skip together slowly and say step, hop out loud.

B

1. 1 Walk slowly around the room · 2 Stand still and breathe slowly · 3 Feel your heart beat slower If they put the heart step first, ask: does your heart slow down before or after you stop moving?

C

1. Look at one spot in front of you Looking down means the eyes follow the feet, not a still spot. Ask them to try both and say which felt steadier.

2. Bend your knees when you land Stiff legs make the body jolt. Ask them to land from a small jump and feel their knees bend.

3. Keep small hops in a steady rhythm Big hard hops make the rhythm break. Ask them to skip slowly and count each hop out loud.

4. Look for: Three rows marked after each try, showing the child felt their heart after the star jumps.

D

1. Look for: breathing gets faster because the body needs more air when it works hard If they say slower, ask them to put a hand on their chest after running and notice what it does.

E

1. Look for: Says the heart beats faster and breathing gets faster, because the body needs more air when it works hard.

Words to use

Say“Where did you feel your heart get faster? Let's do the star jumps again and feel it change.”
Instead of“Well done, you are so good at sport.”

After the sheet

Do ten star jumps together in a clear space, away from windows. Put a hand on your chest, then sit still for one minute and feel again. Talk about what changed and why.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
