B

1. Look for: a colour name from the swatches, such as blue or green, with a short reason why it feels calm

C

1. orange If they pick green, they may think yellow alone makes it. Green needs blue and yellow. Ask which two colours are in the picture.

3. purple If they pick orange, they may be using red and yellow again. Point to the two colours in the picture and say the mix out loud.

4. Cool colours: blue, green · Warm colours: red, yellow

D

1. Look for: says art can show feelings with colour, shape or line, so it does not have to copy what things look like If they only say 'because it must look real', ask them to name one colour that shows a feeling. Then explain that abstract art uses colour and shape to show feelings.

E

1. Look for: two shapes placed apart on the page, with a sentence giving a reason for the distance

Words to use

Say“Which colour did you pick, and why does it feel that way to you?”
Instead of“That is a nice picture, but make it look more like a real cup.”

After the sheet

Put two cups or bowls on a table so they touch, then move one away. Ask which one looks closer, then draw them in two colours that show how you feel about each.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
