Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. primary

2. orange If your child circles green, they may be thinking of blue and yellow. Ask which two colours in the picture are red and yellow, and what mixing them makes.

3. circle

B

1. Look for: One colour linked to the grumpy feeling with a reason, such as blue for gloom or red for feeling cross. If your child picks yellow, ask what yellow usually shows. Then ask which colour feels gloomy or cross, like Ben.

C

1. yellow If your child circles blue, ask them to point to the colour that looks bright like a sunny day. Yellow is bright and warm.

2. blue If your child circles yellow, ask whether a bright sunny colour fits a sad memory. Blue is the cooler colour in this pair.

3. Calm or peace: soft wavy line · Anger or excitement: zigzag line If your child puts the zigzag under calm, ask them to trace it with a finger. Sharp points feel busy, so the zigzag belongs under anger or excitement.

4. green If your child circles purple, they may have mixed blue with red. Ask them to mix blue and yellow with paint or crayon to see the new colour.

D

1. purple If your child circles green, they have copied Kit's idea. Green comes from blue and yellow. Ask your child to mix red and blue with crayons to see what appears.

E

1. Look for: Two different choices, each linked to a feeling, with a reason such as a wave for calm or a zigzag for anger.

Words to use

Say“What feeling did you want your marks to show? Which mark or colour helped most?”
Instead of“That is not what the picture is meant to look like. Just copy the photo.”

After the sheet

Sit side by side with paper and felt tips. Each of you draws one happy memory using only marks and colours. Swap sheets, guess the feeling in the other picture, then explain your own choices.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
