Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Zakah your child may have picked Wudu or Dua, which are good things but not pillars. Point to the chain and ask what Zakah means: giving to people in need.

2. Asr If your child picks Zakah or Hajj, ask: is that a prayer we do each day? Then go round the circle with a finger and say the times in order.

3. Wudu If your child picks Sleep or Breakfast, ask which thing we do right before we stand to pray. Trace the chain with a finger.

B

1. Look for: The word anything or nothing, to finish: Allah does not need anything. If your child writes food or water, say: those are things creatures need. Al-Samad says Allah needs none of them. Read the name again and ask what Allah needs.

C

1. Al-Ahad → The One; Al-Samad → Does not need anything; Tawhid → Belief that Allah is only One If your child joins Al-Ahad to Tawhid, say: Al-Ahad is the name, Tawhid is the belief that Allah is One. Read both aloud.

2. Allah needs nothing If your child picks food or sleep, ask: does the cat need food? Does Allah? Then read the name Al-Samad aloud once more.

3. Allah needs nothing: Allah · Needs food and water: Flower, Fish, Cat If your child puts Allah with the cat, ask what the cat eats. Then ask whether Allah eats. Let them move the card.

4. Look for: A line saying Allah does not need food because He is not a creature, and that creatures need Allah. If your child writes that Allah is tired or busy, read the Al-Samad meaning again and ask what it says about needing things.

D

1. Look for: No, because Al-Samad means Allah does not need anything, including food or water. If your child says Kit is right, read Al-Samad aloud and ask: is food a thing that Allah needs?

E

1. Look for: Picks Al-Ahad or Al-Samad and gives a reason that shows what the name means.

Words to use

Say“Which thing needs food, and which thing needs nothing at all?”
Instead of“Tell them Allah is different and leave it there, without asking them to explain.”

After the sheet

Play the needs game at the table. Name a plant, a pet and a person. Ask what each one needs, and who gives it to them.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
