Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Makkah

2. moved to Madinah for their faith

3. Al-Ghafur

B

1. D3 your child may have gone up or down instead of across. Ask them to put a finger on C3 and slide it one square right.

C

1. one square right your child may have counted the wrong way. Ask them to put a finger on C3 and move one square along the row.

2. one square right and two down your child may have mixed up across and down. Ask them to move across first, then count down the rows.

3. two squares left and two down your child may have the right number but the wrong direction. Ask: is the shop on the left or the right of the mosque?

4. two squares right and two up your child may have counted the right squares but swapped up and down. Ask whether the shop is above or below the mosque row.

D

1. Look for: Says no, and that the Suffah was a shaded platform where poor companions lived and learned, not a marketplace. your child may have mixed up the two places. Point to the school symbol beside the mosque and ask what people did there, then point to the shop.

E

1. Look for: An answer saying faith, learning, or care for others cannot be seen on a map because a map only shows places and buildings.

Words to use

Say“Show me where the mosque is on your map. Now count the squares from it to the shop, across first, then up or down.”
Instead of“Just tell them the answer, or say the map is too hard for them.”

After the sheet

Draw a plan of the kitchen table with a cup in the middle. Ask your child to say where the biscuit tin is, counting squares from the cup.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
