Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. sunny

2. Look for: moving or being active, such as running, dancing or playing outside.

3. Look for: breathe out slowly, or let the breath out slowly.

B

1. Look for: Brush her teeth before bed. If your child is unsure, ask what we do in the bathroom every night. Brushing before bed keeps teeth strong.

2. Look for: A calm idea, such as putting the screen away, reading a book or a quiet story. If your child says one more game, ask: does a bright, busy screen make you sleepy or wide awake?

C

1. twice a day Once a day is not enough. The NHS says brush in the morning and before bed. Ask your child what time they brush.

2. 10 hours

3. before going outside “Only on sunny days” is wrong because skin can burn on cloudy days too. Ask your child when they last put sunscreen on.

4. the middle of the day, about 11 am to 3 pm

D

1. Look for: Skin can still burn on cloudy days, so sunscreen is still needed. If your child says sunscreen is only for hot days, explain that skin can still burn when it is cloudy. Ask when they should put sunscreen on.

E

1. Look for: A named habit from brushing, sleeping or sun safety, plus a reason it helps the body.

Words to use

Say“Which of these three habits did you do today? What does your body need from you tomorrow?”
Instead of“Brush your teeth and get to bed, no arguing.”

After the sheet

Pin a simple body care checklist by the bathroom mirror, with a toothbrush, a bed and a sun drawn in three boxes. Tick each one every morning for a week, and talk about why each one matters. If your child ever feels unsafe or worried, the NSPCC helpline for grown-ups is 0808 800 5000, and Childline for children is 0800 1111.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
