Our Class Vote · 2 minutes to read

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Cross

2. Red

3. 1 Calm down first · 2 Talk about what happened · 3 Agree how to put it right

B

1. Cats If your child circles Dogs, ask: does the teacher get more than one vote? In a vote, the choice most people pick wins.

C

1. Biscuit If your child circles Fizz, ask: does shouting count as more votes? Each child votes once, and the most votes wins.

2. Not a fair way: The loudest child decides, One person picks without asking anyone · Fair way to decide: Everyone votes once, Everyone gets a turn to share ideas If your child says the loudest child is fair, ask: does a loud voice count more? In a vote, each person has one say.

3. vote → picking your favourite and having it counted; representative → a person who speaks up for a group; democracy → people share ideas and decide together If your child joins vote to the wrong meaning, say the word out loud. Ask what a voter does, then read the meanings again.

4. Representative If your child circles Head teacher, remind them that Ali was chosen by the class to speak for them. That is a representative.

D

1. Look for: Says Priya is wrong because one person decides alone and the class does not get a say or a vote. If your child says yes, ask who else got a say. Democracy means everyone gets a fair chance to speak and vote.

E

1. Look for: Two clear choices and a fair way to count, such as each person votes once and the most votes wins.

Words to use

Say“Which is fairer, one person deciding or everyone voting? Why do you think so?”
Instead of“Tell them the right answer straight away.”

After the sheet

Have a mini vote at home. Offer two snacks, such as apple or banana. Each person raises a hand, count the votes together, then talk about how it felt to have a say.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
