Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. His tower fell over

2. Listen to the answer

3. Sunny → Happy; Stormy → Very upset or angry

B

1. Look for: A real question that invites Ali to share something about himself, not a yes or no check on whether he wants to play. your child wrote a question like Do you want to play? That is not curious enough. Ask what it would find out about Ali.

C

1. Yes your child chose No. Sam decided about Bea before knowing her, so it is a quick judgement. Ask what Sam could find out first.

2. Quick judgement: He looks too shy to be fun., She must be bossy. · Curious question: What is the best thing you have made?, What is your favourite game? your child put a question into the judgement column. A question asks to find out. A judgement says what someone is like already.

3. quick judgement → deciding before you know someone; curious → wanting to find out more; friendship → a warm kind bond between people who care

4. What is the best thing you have ever made? your child picked a question with a yes or no answer. Ask which question would give the most to talk about.

D

1. Look for: Says Mia cannot know yet because she has not asked him anything, and suggests asking one question. your child agreed with Mia. Ask: how can you know someone you have never asked? Then ask which question they could try.

E

1. Look for: A curious question that asks about the child, plus a reason it helps you learn something new about them.

Words to use

Say“What is one real question you could ask before you decide?”
Instead of“Tell them not to judge people, and move on.”

After the sheet

At teatime, take turns to ask each other one curious question about the day. Then ask: what did you find out that you did not know before?

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
