Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. South

2. D1 They may have given the square of a different symbol. Find the church first, then go along the bottom to the letter and up the side to the number.

3. Mar They may have stopped at the first tall bar, January. Ask them to look along every bar, find the tallest and read its label.

B

1. physical They may think a hill was built by people. Ask who or what made it: rock and time, or people?

C

1. physical They may have chosen environmental because water changed the rock. Ask: did people cause this, or did water and time?

2. human

3. environmental They may have chosen human because people are in the sentence. Ask: is this about people changing the environment around them?

4. environmental

D

1. Look for: Says geography happens everywhere, not just at school, and that the river is a physical feature. If they only say he is wrong, ask: where did this river come from, and who can notice it? Help them name the physical feature.

E

1. Look for: Names one feature made by nature, one built by people, and one showing people and nature affecting each other, such as street trees planted to clean the air.

Words to use

Say“Which lens is this: is nature doing it, people, or both? Where did you notice geography today?”
Instead of“Geography is just facts from a book, so there is nothing to notice at home.”

After the sheet

Walk round the house or garden together. Name one physical, one human and one environmental thing you see, and say why each one fits.
