2. 40

3. >

B

1. 3000 your child may have added 1000 to 3 once, which gives 1003. Ask: each litre is 1000 ml, so how many thousands are in 3 litres?

C

1. 2000 your child may have added 2 and 1000, which gives 1002. Ask how many lots of 1000 m make 2 km.

2. 3000

3. 4000

4. 4 your child may have divided 4000 by 10, which gives 400. Ask how many thousands are in 4000.

D

1. 1000 your child may have followed the word million and written 1000000. Milli means one thousandth, so 1000 mm make 1 m.

E

1. 500 your child may have added the lengths, which gives 3500. Ask how many metres are in 2 km, then how many Ali still has to walk.

Words to use

Say“Which unit is bigger, and how many of the small unit make one of the big one?”
Instead of“Just tell them the answer.”

After the sheet

Find a 1 kg bag of flour or sugar. Ask how many grams it holds, then how many grams are in 2 kg.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
