Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 12

2. 70

3. <

B

1. 40 If your child writes 14, they added 10 to 4. Ask how many tens there are in 4 packs.

C

1. 20 If your child writes 12, they added 10 to 2. Each pack is worth 10, so 2 packs make 2 tens.

2. 50

3. 80

4. 100 If your child writes 20, they added 10 to 10 instead of multiplying. 10 packs hold 10 tens, which is 100, and the ones digit is 0.

D

1. 70 your child may have added 10 to 7. 7 + 10 is 17. Multiplying by 10 makes 7 tens, which is 70.

E

1. 60, 70, 80, 90, 100. Each one has a zero in the ones column. If your child misses one out, count up in tens from 60 and check the ones digit of each number.

Words to use

Say“Each pack is 10, so count the tens first. Then look for the zero.”
Instead of“Just add a zero on the end, that's the rule.”

After the sheet

Put 5 small piles of 10 buttons or dried pasta pieces together. Count the piles, then say the total and check it ends in zero.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
