Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. A gentle jog and some stretches

2. Throw → Step towards the target and follow through; Catch → Hands soft and give with the ball

3. A clear space away from windows

B

1. Light, small touches your child chose the heavy push or the hard kick. After one big touch the ball rolls away from the feet. Ask: where is the ball after one heavy push?

2. Change direction and keep the ball close

C

1. 1 Look up and see the space · 2 Take a light touch · 3 Change direction and keep the ball close · 4 Move into open space

2. Defender in front of you → Change direction with the ball close; Team-mate free at the side → Pass to the free team-mate; Ball getting far from your feet → Shorten your touches your child joined the ball far away with pass. A ball far from the feet needs shorter touches first. Ask: what would you do with the ball if the team-mate were free?

3. Look for: Three whole numbers, one for each try, written by the child.

4. Into open space your child dribbled at the defender. That gives the defender the ball. Ask: where is the space you can run into?

D

1. Look for: A ball pushed far ahead rolls out of reach of the feet, so a defender can take it. your child said Kit is right. Ask: where is the ball while Kit chases it, and who is close to it?

E

1. Look for: Two calls or signals, such as Defender! or a clap, each with a reason about keeping the ball close.

Words to use

Say“Where is the ball right now? Is it close enough to your feet to stop a defender reaching it?”
Instead of“Go faster, you will be quicker than everyone.”
