Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 9

2. 5

3. >

B

1. 8

C

1. 5

2. 6 If your child writes 5, they used the 3 from the last story. Read the then part again: 4 more come.

3. 10

4. 6 If your child thinks the number must change, ask: did any more come? Zero more means the 6 ducks stay.

D

1. 6 If your child writes 4, they have worked out 4 + 0 and missed the then part. Count on from 4: 5, 6.

E

1. Look for: Both are right: 0 + 4 starts at zero and 4 more are added, so the total is 4.

Words to use

Say“Which number was there at the start? Put that one first.”
Instead of“Just add the two numbers you can see.”

After the sheet

Put 6 buttons in a line. Add 2 more. Say: first 6, then 2 more, now 8.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
