Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 10

2. 9 If your child writes 8, they have counted on only one. Count on two from 7: 8, then 9.

3. >

B

1. Pip's pencil If your child circles Ola's pencil, ask which number is smaller, 6 or 8. The smaller length is the shorter one.

C

1. Tower A If your child circles Tower B, ask which bar reaches higher. The taller tower reaches higher up.

2. Leo's rope If your child circles Kit's rope, ask which number is bigger, 8 or 12. The bigger length is the longer one.

3. the stick If your child circles the crayon, ask which length is the smaller number. Smaller means shorter.

4. Ali If your child circles Ruby, ask who has the biggest number. Check all three numbers before choosing.

D

1. longer than If your child circles taller than, ask whether the pen reaches up higher. Things lying flat stretch along, so use longer than.

E

1. Use longer: a garden hose, a snake on the path · Use taller: a tree, a tower of bricks

Words to use

Say“Does it reach higher, or does it stretch further? Which word fits that?”
Instead of“Just say bigger.”

After the sheet

Stand two books on end and lay two spoons flat. Say taller or longer for each pair.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
