Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 10

2. 4

3. 8

B

1. 17 If your child writes 71, the digits have swapped places. 71 is 7 tens and 1 one. Point to the 1 and say: one ten.

C

1. 12

2. 15 If your child writes 51, the digits are backwards. Point to the ten rod and say: one ten, not five.

3. 19

4. 16

D

1. 18 If your child writes 80, they heard eighty, not eighteen. 80 is 8 tens and no ones. Point to the ten rod and say: one ten and 8 ones.

E

1. 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 If your child stops at 15, count on from 15. Check the ones in each teen number.

Words to use

Say“Find the ten first, then count the ones.”
Instead of“Just read the number out loud and move on.”

After the sheet
