Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 14 If your child stops at 10, count on the 4 more ones slowly. Ten and four make 14.

2. > If your child writes <, ask which number is bigger. Which is more, 13 or 9?

3. 11 If your child writes 56, the numbers have been put side by side. Join 5 and 6 to make 11.

B

1. crayon If your child circles the pencil, ask which one reaches further. That one is longer, so the other one is shorter.

C

1. red If your child circles blue, that is the shortest. Find the stick that reaches furthest from 0.

2. blue If your child circles red, that is the longest. The shortest stick stops first.

3. red If your child circles blue, blue is shorter than green. Check which stick goes further than green.

4. 1 blue stick · 2 green stick · 3 red stick If your child puts the sticks the wrong way round, start at the shortest and go up to the longest.

D

1. yellow Kit only looked at the far ends. Ask your child to count the steps in each hop. Yellow has 6 steps and purple has 4.

E

1. Look for: Names two household objects, says which is longer, and explains they were lined up at the same end.

Words to use

Say“Line them up at the same end first, then look at the other end.”
Instead of“Just tell me which one looks bigger.”

After the sheet

Put three spoons on the floor, all starting at the same end. Which is longest?

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
