Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. Catch with two hands If your child picks closing the eyes, ask what they can see when the ball arrives. Eyes open and hands together make the catch safer.

2. Warm up If your child picks cool down, ask which part comes at the end when the body is slowing down. The warm up gets the body ready first.

3. Look for: Five values, each 0 or 1, one for each of the five throws. If your child writes a count instead of 0 or 1 for each throw, show them one throw at a time and ask: hit or miss?

B

1. 1 Move to the side of the defender · 2 Signal that you are ready · 3 Watch the ball all the way in · 4 Cushion the ball into your hands If your child puts catching first, ask: where must you be before the ball can reach you? Getting into space and signalling come before the catch.

C

1. Towards her teammate's hands If your child picks the wall, ask: where is the target? Hips point at the person you are passing to.

2. To the side of the defender If your child picks behind the defender, ask whether the defender can block a ball coming straight in. A side angle makes a gap.

3. Look for: Three numbers from 0 to 10, one for each try, written by the child.

4. Hips → Point at the target before you pass; Follow through → Keep your hands moving after you let go; Side of defender → Stand at an angle, not behind; Watch the ball → Eyes stay on the ball into your hands If your child joins two cards the wrong way, ask them to act out the pass slowly. Which card matches what their body is doing?

D

1. Look for: Moves to the side of the defender, not behind, and looks at or signals to the passer. If your child says run faster, ask where the defender is standing. The fix is an angle, not speed.

E

1. Look for: A reason about making an angle, moving into space, or keeping possession, not just that it is fun. If your child says only 'because it is fun', ask which choice makes it harder for a defender to block the pass.

Words to use

Say“Where is the defender standing, and where could your partner stand to make a gap?”
Instead of“Just run faster and pass harder.”
