Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. The cat sat on the mat. If your child picks the one with a question mark, ask what kind of sentence it is. It tells something, so it needs a full stop.

2. and

3. jumped If your child picks jumpped, point to the m and p at the end. Jump already ends in two consonants, so just add -ed.

B

1. slowly

2. Look for: Says to speak loudly, clearly or slowly, not whispering fast.

C

1. train → rain; snow → go; boat → coat

2. hat

3. a loud, clear voice

4. Look for: A short answer saying it felt slow, strange or different from how we usually talk. If your child says it was easy, ask them to try going even slower on the last word.

D

1. Look for: Says Ali should speak loudly and slowly, because James Carter says so. If your child only says 'speak nicer', ask which two things James Carter says. Loud and slow are the answer.

E

1. Look for: A line that repeats the same word or phrase at least once, such as bus, bus or go, go.

Words to use

Say“Show me one line again, loud and slow. What did you notice?”
Instead of“Tell them to speak up faster so it is over.”

After the sheet

Pick a short rhyme from a book at home. Read it aloud loudly and slowly, clapping on each rhyme word, then swap turns.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.

The rest of this unit

3 more sheets come with a StudyDen plan, in teaching order:
