Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 34

2. 60

3. 66

B

1. 68 If your child writes 66, they took one away. One more means the next number along, so add 1.

C

1. 43 If your child writes 41, they took one away. Adding 1 moves one step forward, to the next number.

2. 46 If your child writes 48, they added 1 instead. Taking away 1 moves one step back, to the number before.

3. 64

4. 90 If your child writes 92, they added 1. One less is the number just before, so take 1 away.

D

1. 54 If your child writes 56, they added 1. Here 55 is the bigger number. One more than 54 is 55, so the answer is 54. Point to 55 and step back once.

E

1. 31 and 36, because 30 + 1 = 31 and 35 + 1 = 36. If your child only lists multiples of 5, ask what one more than each one is. Then write that number instead.

Words to use

Say“What number sits right next to it? Step forward or back once.”
Instead of“Tell them the answer straight away.”

After the sheet

Make 34 with buttons in piles of ten and loose ones. Add one and say '34 add 1 is 35'. Then take one away and say it again.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
