Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 45

2. 43

3. <

B

1. 30 If your child writes 6, they have halved the 12 numbers on the clock. Half of 60 minutes is 30.

C

1. 60 If your child writes 12, they have counted the numbers on the clock. Each number is 5 minutes, so count in fives to 60.

2. 70 If your child writes 11, they added 1 and 10. Change the hour into 60 minutes, then add 10.

3. 85 If your child writes 26, they added 1 and 25. Change the hour into 60 minutes, then add 25.

4. 100

D

1. 24 If your child writes 16, they have counted only the awake hours. The clock keeps going while we sleep, so count the whole day.

E

1. 12 If your child writes 24, they have counted the whole day for one trip. Split the bar into two equal parts and count one part.

Words to use

Say“Count in fives round the clock, then count how many trips the hour hand makes.”
Instead of“Just learn the numbers 60 and 24 off by heart.”

After the sheet

Draw a clock face on paper, or use a real one. Count in fives at each number until you reach 60.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
