Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 60

2. even

3. 6

B

1. 10 If your child writes 55, they have put the two fives side by side. Double means add the same amount again: 5 and 5 make 10.

C

1. 5

2. 10

3. 15 If your child writes 25, they took 5 away from 30. Half means two equal parts: 15 and 15 make 30.

4. 20 If your child writes 30, they have taken away one ten. Half means two equal parts, so split 40 into 20 and 20.

D

1. No If your child circles Yes, count in tens from 0: 10, 20, 30. Ask what every number in the tens count ends with.

E

1. 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 If your child writes 35, they have added a number that is only in the fives count. Does 35 end in 0? If not, it is not in the tens count.

Words to use

Say“Which count does this number belong to? How do you know?”
Instead of“Tell them the answer straight away.”

After the sheet

Put 20 buttons on a table. Make tens, then make fives, and ask which gives more groups.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
