Ola folds a sheet of paper twice. She presses the folded corner onto a rectangle to test it.

Watch me

Fold a sheet twice and press the folded corner into each corner.

Each corner fits exactly, so each one is a right angle.

Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 36

2. 1/4

3. 2

B

1. 4 If your child writes 2, they may have tested only the top corners. Test all four corners with the folded paper.

C

1. 1 If your child writes 3, they counted each hour from 12 to 3 (1 + 1 + 1). A quarter turn is one right angle, and 12 to 3 is one quarter.

2. 2

3. 3

4. 4

D

1. Look for: says no; a right angle is a square corner however it is turned or tilted If your child agrees with Sam, ask them to fold a paper corner and press it onto the tilted corner. Does it fit?

E

1. Look for: says no, because two right angles leave no room for the third corner of a triangle If your child says yes, ask them to draw two square corners on one triangle and check where the third corner can go.

Words to use

Say“Which corners fit the folded paper? Check the tilted ones too.”
Instead of“A corner only counts as a right angle when its lines go straight up and across.”

After the sheet

Fold a sheet of paper twice and test the corners of books, tiles and the table at home.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
