Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 6

2. 34

3. 1

B

1. less than a right angle If your child says greater, ask how many hours the hand passes. From 12 to 2 is only 2 hours, and a right angle is 3 hours.

C

1. 1 If your child writes 3, they have counted the hours. One right angle is 3 hours, so ask them how many right angles 3 hours makes.

2. 2 If your child writes 6, they counted each hour as a right angle. Six hours is two right angles, because each right angle is 3 hours.

3. 3

4. 4 If your child writes 12, they counted the hours. A whole turn is 4 right angles, which is 12 hours.

D

1. they make the same angle Ria thinks longer hands make a bigger angle. Length does not change the turn. On both clocks the hands are a quarter turn apart, one right angle.

E

1. 3, 6 and 9 If your child lists every even hour, they may be counting hours rather than right angles. Ask how many hours make one right angle.

Words to use

Say“Which way did the hand turn, and how many right angles fit in that turn?”
Instead of“Tell them the answer is a right angle, without letting them look at the turn.”

After the sheet

Join two pencils at one end with a paperclip, open them into a corner, then find a book corner or table corner that matches.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
