Answers, and what a wrong one tells you

A

1. 63

2. 100

3. 70

B

1. 10

C

1. 100 If your child writes 10, they have counted the rows, not the dots. Count every dot in each row.

2. 3 If your child writes 30, they have found the straws, not the bundles. 30 straws make 3 bundles of ten.

3. 10

4. 10 If your child writes 100, they have multiplied the 10 by 10 instead of finding the missing number of groups. Count the bundles.

D

1. 100 If your child writes 110, they have added an extra ten. Count the 10 bundles again: 10, 20, all the way to 100.

E

1. Look for: Yes, because 9 tens is 90 and 10 ones make one more ten, so the total is 100.

Words to use

Say“How many groups are there, and how many are in each group?”
Instead of“Tell them the answer is 100 and move on.”

After the sheet

Put 100 dried beans or buttons into 10 cups, 10 in each cup. Then count the cups in tens: 10, 20, 30, all the way to 100.

Tick what your child got right in StudyDen. Anything missed comes back in a later Look back box, so there's no need to redo the sheet.
